Character Coins: Represent Your Party & Track Fallen Heroes

Miniatures are great for bringing characters to life on the table, but sometimes you need something more portable, durable and versatile. That is where our Character Coins come in. Designed by Dice Dungeons and launched through our first successful Kickstarter, these engraved metal tokens let you represent your heroes, track fallen allies and carry your party in your pocket.

The Idea Behind Character Coins

We created Character Coins because we wanted a way to bring characters to the table without carrying a case full of fragile minis. The idea first struck when I had a custom miniature printed for my D&D character, and my DM absentmindedly slipped it into his pocket between sessions. The figure snapped almost immediately, and I realized how impractical minis can be when they are constantly handled, packed, and repacked. It made me think about how often players invest in detailed minis only to see them chipped, bent, or broken before the campaign is even halfway through.

That experience, combined with how often we attend conventions, made portability a top priority. Coins solved both problems. Each one is sized to fit a one inch battle grid, so they work perfectly for tactical combat. They are durable enough to survive being tossed in a dice bag or carried in a pocket all weekend. Unlike minis, they do not need foam trays or careful storage. And because they are double sided, they offer quick visual feedback during play. Flip a coin to show a hero down, then flip it back when the cleric brings them to their feet. They are easy to transport, easy to use, and they look great spread across any map.

All Classes, All Characters

Bard Character Coin Token

The original Character Coin set includes twelve coins, one for each core D&D class: barbarian, bard, cleric, druid, fighter, monk, paladin, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, warlock and wizard. Each side tells a story. One side shows a detailed class emblem, the other side shows a fallen symbol such as a broken weapon or shattered spellbook. When a character drops to zero hit points, simply flip the coin to show their new condition. Everyone at the table can see it instantly.

Expanding the Line: Races and Ancestries

After the success of the first set, we returned with Character Coins 2.0. This time, instead of classes, the designs highlight races and ancestries. Players can mark their halflings, elves, dragonborn, orcs and more with unique art that matches the character they bring to the game. We even included imaginative options like mech folk and bird folk to support tables that go beyond the standard fantasy lineup.

Why Use Coins Instead of Minis?

Coins are not a replacement for miniatures, but they do things minis cannot. They travel easily, slipping into a pocket or dice bag. They make it simple to track the condition of a character by flipping the token over. And they allow every player to have a consistent way to represent their hero no matter what table they sit at. For Dungeon Masters, a handful of coins can fill in for NPCs or entire groups of foes without requiring a mini for each one.

Built to Last

Every Character Coin is struck from solid metal and engraved with high detail. Unlike paper standees or makeshift tokens, they will not wear out after a few sessions. They are built to last for years of campaigns, conventions and one-shots. The weight and feel in your hand makes them satisfying to play with, and the clean art ensures they stand out on the battlefield.

Bring Character Coins to Your Next Game

Whether you want a pocket-sized stand-in for your character, a way to track fallen heroes, or a tool for fast and flexible encounters, Character Coins are an elegant solution. They have been a favorite at Dice Dungeons since day one, and we continue to see players around the world use them in creative ways. Represent your party, track your story, and carry your heroes with you wherever you go.
