Inside the Arsenal Collection: Cage-Style Dice for Every Adventuring Class

Inside the Arsenal Collection: Cage-Style Dice for Every Adventuring Class

When we first started Dice Dungeons, one of our earliest design passions was character coin tokens. We engraved each coin with a different class motif so players could mark their place on a battle map. Those tokens became some of our most beloved accessories. The art we created for each class kept calling to us... we wanted to do more with it.

Fast‑forward to the day we held our first set of hollow cage dice. We were fascinated by how light sang through the lattice and how the dice felt balanced in the hand. We wondered: what if we combined our class token art with this cage style? That question became the foundation of the Arsenal Collection.

From Tokens to Cage Dice

We took the motifs from our character coins... the barbarian’s axes, the bard’s harp, the sorcerer’s flame... and re‑imagined them as frames and faces for metal dice. Each face is cut away to reveal a hollow interior, and the borders echo weapons, spell scrolls or class‑specific symbols. We worked in brass because we wanted the dice to have the satisfying weight of metal without sacrificing roll fairness. Every set is cast from bronze and then hand‑finished to preserve the delicate filigree and ensure they roll true.

It was important that these dice weren’t just beautiful they needed to function as well as any precision set. Hollow metal dice roll differently than solid dice, so we spent months testing weight distribution, wall thickness and balance. The result is a die that looks like a piece of jewelry but rolls like a workhorse. Because brass naturally develops a patina over time, we offer each set in either a raw brass finish or brilliant electroplated colors, letting you match your dice to your character’s style.

Thirteen Classes, Thirteen Stories

At the heart of the Arsenal Collection are thirteen distinct designs.  One for every 5e class plus our own Tinkerer (that celebrates inventors and engineers).

Here are a few highlights:

  • Barbarian: The frames are studded with axes and runes, bringing to mind a warrior’s battered weapons.
  • Bard: Elegant numbering and curling strings decorate each face, like a harp waiting to be plucked.
  • Warlock: Eldritch symbols hint at the pact‑magic of otherworldly patrons.

Every design in the line takes cues from class abilities, weapons and magical traditions. The ranger dice feature intertwined vines and antlers; the cleric set uses radiant borders; the rogue’s faces are cut like lockpicks and daggers. When we added the Tinkerer, we leaned into gears, coils and a hint of arcane circuitry. Each die tells a visual story of its class, so you can pick the one that speaks to your character.

A Dice Collection Made for Players

We didn’t design the Arsenal Collection for collectors alone — these dice are made to be rolled. The cage design reduces weight, preventing the damage heavy metal dice can cause to tables while still providing enough heft for satisfying rolls. Because the dice are hollow, they have a subtle chime when they tumble across a tray. And with finishes ranging from raw brass to bold plating, they look as good on your shelf as they do in your hand.

Many of our customers tell us that matching their dice to their character’s class enhances their game. It’s not about superstition; it’s about immersion. When your paladin’s die bears a sword, or your druid’s die features leaves and paws, those details remind you of your character’s identity every time you roll.

The Journey Continues

The Arsenal Collection represents our love of both art and function. It began with a simple question: “what if we brought our token art to life in three dimensions?” Today we’re proud to offer thirteen class‑specific dice sets that are as playable as they are beautiful. Whether you play a raging barbarian, a tinkering artificer, or anything in between, there’s a cage die waiting to join your arsenal.
